The After-Sports Hair & Body Routine for Active Kids

The After-Sports Hair & Body Routine for Active Kids

If your child plays a sport - football, swimming, dance, cricket, or just full-throttle running around the park - you know the after-effects: sweaty hair, grubby skin, and a child who’d rather do anything than have a proper wash. Mia, our 11-year-old gator, knows the feeling after a long match. The good news? A consistent, simple after-activity routine takes minutes and keeps skin and hair happy.

Why active kids need a little extra care

Physical activity means sweat, and sweat left on the scalp and skin can lead to itchiness, odour, and that not-so-fresh feeling. For kids 5–12, who are more active than ever, a quick rinse-off habit after sport helps them feel clean and comfortable - and builds a self-care routine they’ll carry into their teens.

The 3-step after-sports routine

1.      Wash the hair. Sweat collects at the scalp. A gentle shampoo like Gator Giggle clears away sweat and dirt without stripping moisture, so hair feels clean, not crunchy.

2.      Cleanse the skin. A mild body wash such as Croc-a-Clean rinses off the day’s grime and that post-sport stickiness. Encourage kids to focus on sweat-prone spots - neck, underarms, back.

3.      Nourish. After towel-drying, work a few drops of Little Locks Hair Oil through the lengths to keep hair soft and manageable, especially if frequent washing leaves it a little dry.

Make it their habit, not your chore

The trick to making this stick is ownership. Let kids pump their own shampoo, pick their own towel, time themselves. When the routine is theirs, you stop nagging and they start doing. A fun, kid-friendly range helps - it’s a lot easier to get a child into the shower when the bottle has a gator on it.
